Surroundings

Domaine de Roudeille nestles in the foothills of the Ariège valley, and is surrounded by 4 hectares of lovely private gardens with cherry, fig, apple, pear, plum and walnut trees, our forest with walking track to Canté, and corn and sunflower fields. In the quiet of the early evening, we often see pheasant, deer, hare and all sorts of birds.

The neighbouring picturesque hamlet of Canté – birthplace of Pope Benedict (Benoît) XII – is just a ten minute walk as the crow flies. Alternatively, there is a circular, scenic route through the forest, fields and country lanes; about 50 minutes … depending how often you stop to admire the nature. The Pyrenees are often clearly visible. Can be great for bird watching too!

The nearest village – Saverdun – is 3 kilometres from Domaine de Roudeille. A few minutes drive or another leisurely stroll across the fields. There are a number of shops including several bakeries, a well-equipped convenience store, a bar / café, and a colourful Friday morning market. There are also several reasonable supermarkets.

The nearest large town with a great selection of shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment, is Pamiers; a fifteen-minute drive or an easy train trip from Saverdun. There are several markets in Pamiers during the week, plus bric-a-brac on Sunday mornings. The town is steeped in heritage and culture and we discover something new each time we go there. The 2010 Tour de France passed through Pamiers causing great activity and excitement!

There are lots of cross country walks and cycling circuits to enjoy – we have plenty of route maps to loan our guests.
